AccuShred’s Shred Cancer Program Raises Over $50,000 for Northwest Ohio Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Program Participation and Impact Growing

(Toledo, Ohio, September 24, 2014): AccuShred, an information destruction and electronics recycling company headquartered in Toledo, has announced that its Shred Cancer program has reached $50,000 raised for Northwest Ohio Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure since its launch in August of 2011.

The Shred Cancer program is an innovative awareness and fundraising program that encourages AccuShred customers to display and use the company’s secure Pink Shred Bins for holding their sensitive information to be destroyed, and to make a donation for each bin AccuShred services. Every time the pink bins are picked up, AccuShred matches the customer’s contribution – dollar for dollar – with 100% of the money going to Northwest Ohio Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support efforts toward local breast health programs and research.

“When we started, we thought the Shred Cancer program would be a great way to support a cause we really cared about,” said Nate Segall, AccuShred’s President. “But it’s exceeded our wildest hopes. To raise $50,000 in just three years is incredible. It’s a real testimony to our customers and the positive impact Komen Northwest Ohio is making in our community.”

AccuShred was among the first information destruction companies in the country to utilize secure Pink Shred Bins and its Shred Cancer program is unique in the industry.

“As AccuShred’s Shred Cancer Program reaches the $50,000 giving milestone, Komen Northwest Ohio is grateful for the visionary leadership that raised $37,500 to fund 300 mammograms and breast health services for uninsured women and men in our service area and dedicated $12,500 to funding breast cancer research to find the cures,” said Mary Westphal, executive director, Komen Northwest Ohio.  “This program generates widespread awareness about the importance of early detection by placing pink bins in local businesses and returning a portion of the proceeds to Komen. AccuShred’s direct impact is significant and their partnership with Komen Northwest Ohio is saving lives in the fight against breast cancer.”

The 21st Annual Komen Toledo Race for the Cure will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 in Toledo. AccuShred will be present to announce award winners and mention future plans for the program.
