Digital Data Destruction For The Future
When it comes to information that is stored on a disk or hard drive, don’t think that information will be safe just by breaking it in half or taking a hammer to it. Any knowledgeable person can still get information from the disk. The capacity of a typical CD is approximately 370,000 pages of data. The capacity of a typical DVD is just over 3,000,000 pages of data. The capacity of a typical hard drive is approximately 46 million pages of data, and is growing annually. Non-contemporary methods do exist to read data from broken CD or DVD media. New methods exist for the extraction of information on bent or broken hard drives. That is why AccuShred strictly believes in the total physical destruction of these media.
Examples of services that we provide for the destruction of electronic data include:
NAID-Certified Hard Drive Destruction
Software sanitation, or wiping, has recently become a popular method for rendering information recorded on computer hard drives inaccessible. This is the process of over-writing the information already recorded on the hard drive with nonsense or random data.
The difference between the process of hard drive sanitation and hard drive destruction is one of certainty. One thing that no one argues is that it is virtually impossible to retrieve information from a hard drive that is physically destroyed, or shredded. Even proponents of hard drive sanitation warn that there are a number of vulnerabilities in the process that could lead to “intact” information surviving the process. This is, even more, a problem with the gain in popularity of solid state hard drives (SSD). The sources of the vulnerabilities surrounding hard drive sanitation are two-fold. First, there are the limitations on the effectiveness of the software used to wipe over the information on the hard drive. Second, there are severe limitations on the ability to verify or validate that the process has been successfully completed.

AccuShred firmly believes that total physical destruction is the only fail-safe method of destroying data stored on hard drives, disks, and other storage devices. That is why we shred and recycle each and every hard drive that we receive. We NEVER sell intact hard drives – EVER.
